Although Pont-Aven is well known for its cakes, the city is also nicknamed «the city of painters» and gave its name to a famous school of painting. From 1864, the town became a favourite destination for painters of all nationalities attracted by the beauty of the surrounding countryside and its landscapes. «This is the most beautiful village in France that I have seen so far» wrote Henry Bacon. For his part Gauguin will immortalize his passage by painting his famous yellow Christ. So all to your easels and brushes or camera!!!
